The Medical Society's Governmental Affairs Committee and delegates to TMA and AMA monitor legislation and regulatory activities in Nashville and Washington, DC, and advocate for the interests of physicians and their patients.
The Medical Society holds several annual events for members, including a President’s Reception in January, a Family Picnic each spring/summer, membership events, and the Denim and Diamonds gala to support Project Access and other programs each spring.
Through Project Access, Medical Society members provide charity health care to low-income uninsured residents and have access to health care resources, such as hospital services, for their own uninsured patients. Through October 2012, Project Access has coordinated more than $96 million in health care services. Currently 700 physicians participate.
Grievance Resolution and Ethics Review
Through the Grievance Committee, the Medical Society helps patients and members resolve misunderstandings and communication difficulties. The process encourages the highest ethical standard in the physician-patient relationship. The Judicial Council addresses peer disputes. Both adhere to the AMA Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs and the TMA Extant Grievance and Disciplinary Manual.
